Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire. On leaving school I became a professional footballer initially with Halifax Town before moving to Middlesbrough, then Notts County and finishing at Southend United. After football I eventually got into business being involved in Sports Goods retailing with 4 shops trading as Worthington Sports. Later I ventured into the Fashion Industry having a shop in the centre of Manchester. I have also participated in the Transport Industry followed by 5 years as an Events Co-ordinator for an Adventure Group known as SPICE. We did all sorts of weird and wonderful activities such as Bungee Jumping, Tandem Sky Diving, walking on red hot coals, Fire Eating and Breathing etc. Since that time I returned once again to Sports Goods retailing followed by spending a couple of years living in the South of France and more recently I have been gardening.

My hobbies include reading and walking which I do every day with our Border Collie dog but my wife and I particularly like to go walking in the Yorkshire Dales or up in the Lake District. I also play cricket for our local village team and I am a member of the Committee. Although I usually only go to one or two live professional football matches each year, I still keep in touch with former colleagues at Notts County Football Club in my role as chairman of their Former Players’ Association. I also like to watch Rugby Union and Rugby League, having played Union on and off for 15 years after I finished playing professional football.
